The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a film that I got into with many preconceived notions. I had avoided it for quite a while, all the way back since 2009 when the Swedish version came out. Maybe it’s because of the very selective marketing, or maybe because the first people to be buzzing about it all seemed to be hipsters and studded leather-wearing goths, but I assumed that there was nothing that a clean-cut, wholesome, 1950s postcard-esque fellow such as myself could enjoy. I’m glad to say I was wrong. The movie is a solid piece of art with many enjoyable elements, and I’m not just talking about Rooney Mara’s nude scenes.
But since none of you are here to read my crappy film reviews, I will just talk about Rooney Mara’s nude scenes. Frankly, they border on unnecessary, but I’ve never been one to complain about that in the past. In the role of Lisbeth Salander, we’ve got a shower scene, a sex scene, and a morning-after-lesbian-sex scene. This film is also, of course, infamous for a rather graphic depiction of a rape that occurs between Rooney Mara’s character and a government bureaucrat. Now, I normally take what I can get in the beating off department, so it probably says a lot about the director that the scene in question was so dark and real, that even I couldn’t fap to it. Fortunately for me, though, the film provided plenty of other material for my spank bank.
The only thing that saddens me is the obscene amounts of make-up and bizarre hairstyles that are the centerpiece of Lisbeth’s persona. I did a bit of searching, and Rooney Mara is actually downright adorable when not in character. I’ll definitely be holding my fingers crossed for more roles (and more nude scenes) from her in the future.
